LEARNLINC 4.0 SERVER

LearnLinc 4.0 is sold as a concurrent user server. Begin by purchasing a LearnLinc Server licensed for the number of concurrent users that is most appropriate. Concurrent users are the students and instructors who are logged-in to LearnLinc classes at the same time.

Note that LearnLinc 4.0 is not compatible with previous versions of LearnLinc.

FOR UP TO 25 CONCURRENT USERS ON A SINGLE SERVER

• Intel Pentium Pro 200 MHz, Pentium II 200 MHz or faster CPU
• 64 MB RAM minimum
• Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or greater & Windows NT Option Pack 4.0
• MS PowerPoint 97 or higher (to enable uploading of PowerPoint files to LL Server)
• At least 50 MB hard disk space

FOR 25 TO 100 CONCURRENT USERS ON A SINGLE SERVER
(refer to the Conferencing Options section for scaling limits)

• Intel Pentium II 300 MHz or faster CPU
• 128 MB RAM
• Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or greater & Windows NT Option Pack 4.0
• MS PowerPoint 97 or higher (to enable uploading of PowerPoint files to LL Server)
• High performance network interface card such as a PCI Fast Ethernet card
• At least 50 MB hard disk space

The following table illustrates the average amount of bandwidth required on the network per concurrent client for each LearnLinc conferencing option.

Note that the numbers in the above table are averages only. At times LearnLinc uses much less bandwidth, and at other times it will attempt to use more.

Please note that for streaming video, you will require a streaming video server.  Examples of streaming video servers include Microsoft NetShow Services (now Windows Media Services), and Real Video Server.  Please see your streaming video server's documentation for system requirements.

If you run the streaming video server on the LearnLinc Server system, remember to add the LearnLinc Server requirements and your streaming video server requirements together.  For example, if your implementation of LearnLinc Server requires a P200 and your streaming video server requires a P133, then a P300 or better will probably be needed.  Likewise, if your implementation of LearnLinc Server requires 64 MB RAM, and your streaming video server requires 64 MB RAM, then 128 MB RAM will probably be needed.

LEARNLINC 4.0 CLIENT

LearnLinc conferencing options offer different connectivity and conferencing methods to meet current and future online learning needs. System requirements are incremental based on the Conferencing Options utilized.

Supported Third-Party Software for LearnLinc Clients:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer: 4.01 with SP1 or SP2, 5.0 (5.0 included on LearnLinc Client CD)
• Netscape Navigator: 4.05, 4.08 or greater
• Microsoft Netshow/Windows Media Player: NetShow 3.0, Media Player 6.x (Windows Media Player included with LearnLinc Client)
• ToolBook 5.0, 6.0, 6.1, 6.5, 7.0 (7.0 runtime included with LearnLinc Client under "Advanced" installation option)
